I bought these two nail polishes the other day (I also bought a third nail polish called ’In Stitches’ that you will see a review on sometime in the next few weeks). I’ve been eyeing ’Island Hopping’ for a while now but it wasn’t until I saw a picture of it on IG that I felt like ’I need this nail polish in my life’. They were having a promotion on Essie polishes in a local beauty store so I ended up buying 3 nail polishes instead of one. They usually cost 129 SEK/each which would have equaled to an amount of 387 SEK, but I only paid around 279 SEK I believe, I’m not totally sure plus I just threw away the receipt the other day. Anyways, I think it was pretty cheap for three Essie polishes.
The nail polish in ’Island Hopping’ is a beautiful dark mauve shade. I’ve been really into dark mauve colors for the past couple of months. This polish isn’t as opaque as ’Angora Cardi’ was, so you definitely need two coats of it for it to look like it does in the bottle. The staying power is the same as with all Essie shades. They stay on for at least a week on me before they start flaking. Do note that I always use the Seche Vite top coat on top.
The glitter polish in ’A Cut Above’ is a beautiful rose gold color that I think looks really good together with ’Island Hopping’. You need at least three coats for it to look as opaque as it does on the pictures. Also, wait a bit between each coats to make sure that each layer dries completely before adding the next, otherwise you’ll just be pushing the glitter around and you won’t achieve the opaque intensity you’re after. This will last until the end of days and longer. I think we’ve all figured out by now that glitter polishes are a b**** to remove (I do have an easy trick for removing glitter polish without rubbing you nails off, anyone interested in a post like that?) so the longevity of this polish isn’t really an issue.
Anyways, I’m really loving this nail polish combo, it feels classy yet chic and girly at the same time. What nail polish are you loving at the moment?
