Highlights & Disappointments | July Edition

July favorite

Time really does fly. It’s already august and I finally have three weeks of vacation. Bliss. Not that I hate my job or anything. It’s just that I really like to sleep in the morning and I really, I mean really, don’t like public transportation. As yet another month has passed by without me barely noticing (I mean, the year is more than half gone and I have literally accomplished nothing other than sleep, eat, work, repeat), I have yet another monthly highlights & disappointments to share with you guys.

TOM FORD | Lipsticks in ‘Sable Smoke’, ‘Pink Dusk’ & ‘Wild Ginger’
I bought these at Macy’s when I was in New York last summer. They have easily become my favorite lipsticks because of their creamy consistency and perfect shades. Do I think that they are worth the incredibly expensive price tag? No, they are not better quality than my YSL lipsticks or  my Mac lipsticks, but the colors are perfect and right up my alley. I love moisturizing lipsticks like YSL and Tom Ford. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Mac lipsticks, but even their moisturizing formula dry my lips out. Sable smoke is my favorite of them all, but Wild Ginger is gorgeous on tan skin in the summer. It was my go to lip color when I was on my vacation i Brazil.

I’ve been trying to go through all my eyeshadow palettes lately, and use them more because I have like a million palettes but I use like three of them. I remember loving the Lorac PRO palette. It was one of the first palettes I ever bought. So remembering how much I used to love it, I was pretty disappointed when I played around with it yesterday.

I don’t know if it’s because it’s an old palette and the the formulas have evolved and are probably much better now a days, or maybe I just didn’t know what a good eyeshadow was supposed to be like. I’m not into this palette at all. I mean, the shades are great and it’s a great mixture of both mattes and shimmer. It has shades for both everyday and night-time make up. But they are not as pigmented as I remembered them, and the shadows feel chalky and dry. No, just… no. I’m contemplating giving this palette away. I’m not feeling it at all. Such a shame.

I’ve been trying a lot of new make up this year, especially after my NY trip in July where I went bananas and bought  like 5 kg (10 pounds) of make up and beauty products in like 4 days. I miss those days. Anyways, these are products I was really feeling last year.

TOO FACED | Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette
This is my most used palette of 2016. Hands down, without a doubt. I love the colors, they are right up my alley. Although I must confess I don’t understand why it’s called Sweet Peach because there are like two peachy colors. And the smell. I can’t stand the sweet, chemical smell of this palette. I have to close the lid in-between shades or at least keep it at arms length. I will never understand the need for scented palettes. It’s not like someone’s going to smell my eyelids… I hope.

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS | Master Palette by Mario
My favorite palette. EVER. These shadows are so buttery and pigmented, it’s almost unreal. I love the neutral earthy shades. They feel very sophisticated and would look good on everybody. I’m mostly into brown and bronze shades so the color range in this palette is definitely for me. They might look muted and boring, but trust me. They do not look like that on your lids! Nothing but love.

TARTE | Tartelette 2 In Bloom
My most beautiful palette. I could stare at it all day. This is another neutral, bronze palette. I bet you’re wondering how many neutral, bronze palettes a person actually needs? Many, ok? MANY. It’s like a nude lipstick. You own a gazillion nude lipsticks, but they’re all different shades of nudes. And no one, can have too many nude lipsticks. It’s the same with neutral eyeshadows. This is a great palette to throw in your bag when your off on a weekend trip somewhere because you can do both day and night looks. Amazing.

Lately I’ve been really into eyeshadow sticks… pencils… Whatever. They are so easy to use, especially when you’re in a hurry in the morning. You just swipe some one your lid and blend it out with a fluffy brush. BOOM. You’re done. Excellent. I’m not a morning person. I never have been, nor will I ever be one. Mostly I feel like I’m neither a morning person or a night person, because I’m always tired.  So eyeshadow sticks always come in handy.

COLOURPOP | Superchock eyeshadows in ‘On the Rocks’ and ‘Game Face’
I think Colourpop eyeshadows are okay. I don’t get the hype. I might have bought the wrong shades because no one seems to have the same shades as I do? Maybe their matte shadows are better? Because I find most of their shimmery shades to be less pigmented and more glittery. Not really what I’m looking for in an eyeshadow. I know you’re supposed to apply them with your finger, but still I’m not sure. Anyways, of all my shadows from Colourpop, these two are my favorites. They are neutral and bronze (I know, I know!) and they are great everyday colors.

KIKO | Eyeshadow sticks in shades 4, 6 and 17
These eyeshadow pens/sticks are my favorite ones. They are beautiful, pigmented and guess what… they are cheap! I honestly didn’t think cheap make up could be this good. Boy, was I wrong. I get so many compliments when I use these, so if you have a KIKO store near where you live, you need these in your life. Also, they last all day.

SUMITA | Champagne Eyeshadow pencil
I got this pen/stick in a Glossybox last year, or maybe it was in 2015? I don’t remember. What I do remember, is to use it. I’ve used it so much that I now have to sharpen it. I hate sharpening make up pens. I end up with sticky, colored fingers and always somehow end up messing up my clothes. Anyways, this is a beautiful medium taupe color, perfect for everyday.

BY TERRY | Ombre Blackstar Eyeshadow pen in ‘Velvet Orchid’
Well, by far my most expensive eyeshadow pen/stick. Very pigmented, but stiff when applied. It does blend easily though so don’t worry. Also, these are budge proof. Almost hard to remove. You don’t have to worry about your eyeshadow sliding when wearing this.

Best. Lash glue. Ever. I think this is the only tube of lash glue that I’ve actually run out of as opposed to it drying out on me. The only downside is that the glue is hard do come off. Your lashes do however stay all night without you having to worry about them coming off. If i’m worried that my falsies are gonna fall off, i’m gonna be totally self conscious about it and not be my most confident self. So call me crazy, but I rather have a hard time removing the glue afterwards that constantly having to retouch the glue and worry about my falsies coming off. That’s why I really don’t like the Duo adhesive.

HOUSE OF LASHES | False lashes in ‘Iconic’
These are by far my favorite dramatic lashes! They complete any look. I love how they are dramatic but not too long. I hate when lashes are too long so that they are up to your eyebrows. It makes it look fake and like you’re heading to a masquerade. And that’s usually not a look i’m going for.

ARDELL | False lashes in ‘Wispies’
My favorite natural lashes! They enhance your natural lashes and people usually can’t tell i’m wearing falsies. I mean I wore these once off to dinner with my family and my own mother couldn’t tell I was wearing false lashes. That’s how good the are.

LILLY LASHES | False lashes in ‘Miami’
Been obsessed with these since I bought them. They are really wispy and beautiful. They look dramatic but still a bit natural. I mean, you’re not fooling anyone with them, but they enhance any eye make up without looking to heavy and dramatic. These are too long however, you know up to your eyebrows long, so I had to cut them. It looked ridiculous. Afterwards it looked flawless. Will definitely be buying more lashes from this brand. They are very light and do not feel heavy on your lids.

What eye products have you been loving lately?

I’m a big fan of the Too Faced Chocolate palettes even though I only own the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Palette. But it’s one of my all time favorite palettes, and when I saw the colors of the Sweet Peach palette I just new I had to try to get my hands on it. I bought it at my local Sephora, but since it was limited edition and they only had a few palettes to sell (nine to be exact), I had to sign up on a special list they had to get it. Can you imagine my happiness when they called and said they had a palette for me? Yes, girl. I was ecstatic!

So just like the Chocolate palettes this one smells, not like chocolate, but like peach. Well, at least that’s what they claim it’s supposed to smell like. I honestly have no idea what peaches smell like (do they even smell?). I rarely eat peaches so I have no idea. But I actually don’t like the smell of this palette, it has this sweet cloying smell that doesn’t seem natural. I mean, you can tell the smell is made up of chemicals and that’s never good. Aside from that, it has the similar metal packaging that the Chocolate palettes have as well. Which I like because they are easy to open and have a magnet on the lid that keeps it closed in your makeup bag etc. when your traveling.

The colors in this palette are beautiful. I love the mix of different shades. I even like the green shade, and I have never been into a green shade in my life. My favorite shades are ‘Luscious’, ‘Caramelized’, ‘Cobbler’, ‘Bellini’, ‘Peach Pit’ & ‘Delectable’. I use ‘Luscious’ everyday, sometimes I mix ‘Luscious’ & ‘Bellini’ together to make this amazing shade that reminds me of sunsets. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my makeup when I’ve worn those two shades mixed together.

I personally feel like these shadows last longer than the eyeshadows in previous palettes have done. I mean, I can wear ‘Luscious’ without a primer and it’s still on my lids after a long day at work. Yes, it has creased on me at the end of the day, but not as much as shadows usually do. I still have eyeshadow all over my lid, it just has creased some, but not bad. Whereas some eyeshadows are just in my crease and the rest have somehow mysteriously disappeared during the day. But not with these. They’re buttery and very blendable. The only downside I guess is that some shades are more opaque than the others. Where ‘Luscious’ is very pigmented, I feel like I have to apply more layers of ‘Delectable’ to build up that purple smokey eye to the intensity that I want. But maybe that’s a good thing? It’s easier to build up intensity than it is to remove it.

Here are some swatches from top row to bottom row:

+ Long lasting eyeshadows
+ Pigmented
+ Beautiful colors that you can create a lot of different eye make up looks with!
+ Buttery and soft consistency
+ Blendable and easy to work with
+ It has a mirror
+ Magnet on the lid

– The smell ( I really don’t like it)
– I wish the mirror was bigger and wasn’t obstructed by the Sweet Peach logo.

All in all? I’m having a really hard time with the smell. I can’t keep the palette open fore more than a few seconds at a time. I’m not really into sweet things so maybe that’s why I don’t like the smell. I mean I hate Nutella and I’m not that fond of cake, candies or cookies either. I do however (strangely) love soft drinks and cheese cake. Mmmm… cheese cake. But that’s about it. So, what I’m trying to get at, is that maybe you’ll love the smell and I’m just being weird. I don’t know. But I can definitely overlook the smell and try to make it work because I love these eyeshadows. So, If you can still get your hands on this palette I do really recommend it.
