The Body Shop Oils of Life Facial Oil (Review)

Facial oil

The Body Shop Oils of Life Revitalising Facial Oil (450 kr / 30 £ for 30 ml) is described as a facial oil made of three different seed oils known for their revitalising and repairing properties on the skin. It’s marketed as a lightweight daily facial oil that instantly replenishes moisture and revives radiance. The Oils of Life facial oil is said to contain black cumin seed oil from Egypt, Camellia seed oil from China and rosehip seed oil from Chile.

First off, this is definitely a lightweight, non-sticky oil that actually works for both day and night. If you have skin that is is super dry, this might be little on the light side for your nighttime routine. I feel like it really does revive my skin, my skin feels more plump and looks healthier after I’ve applied it. So I do really feel like it does replenish my skin’s natural moisture and helps combat the dryness. However you should be aware that it does not combat extreme dryness. Essentially, this is more appropriate for normal to oily skin and If you suffer from dry skin I would go for something heavier than this facial oil.

I’ve been loving this oil so much I’m almost completely out of it. However, there are some thing about it that I don’t like. First of all, it’s very pricey. Sure, it does contain a lot of different plant and seed oils, but it’s also heavily fragranced. I don’t know if that’s thanks to all the natural oils or if they have added fragrance, but my guess is the latter. I’m not a big fan of fragrance in my skin care since suffer from sensitive skin.  Due to the strong fragrance, I feel like it isn’t as skin care friendly as they portray it as, and I honestly feel like this oil is a bit overpriced. My Clarins Lotus facial oil was cheaper and it didn’t smell so heavily of perfume.

With that said, I have been enjoying this oil this past couple of months. It helped my skin a lot during the colder winter months since it is lightweight enough that I could use it in my morning routine. I also feel like it helped clear my skin a bit (probably because of all the added moisture and the black cumin seed oil). It’s good, but it’s not life changing.

Pros:

  • Lightweight enough to be used in the daytime
  • Plumps the skin
  • Leaves skin looking healthier
  • Great for normal and oily skin
  • Good for acne prone skin

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Too lightweight for dry skin
  • Heavily fragranced
  • Hard to get the last drops out of the bottle

All in all? I’ve really been loving this oil for the last couple of months. It really helped my skin during the winter months as I have been suffering from drier skin than ever before. Even though it contains a lot of fragrance, I don’t feel like it has caused any problems to my skin. On the contrary, it actually helped clear some of my acne. I feel like the price point of this facial oil is a little on the expensive side considering it’s a Body Shop product. However, in the end I do feel like the oil has been worth every penny for me. It has lasted me for six months and I’m literarily using the last drops of it. Will I buy it again? Yes! Just not anytime soon as I’m looking to try a new facial oil in my never-ending quest to find my HG products.
